What is Ankle Bursitis?
Bursitis is the swelling and pain of a bursa. A bursa is a fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion or shock absorber between a tendon and a bone. When swelling, the bursa becomes inflamed and may fill with too much fluid. Achilles tendon bursitis is a type of ankle bursitis. You may have Achilles bursitis and tendonitis at the same time.
Signs and Symptoms
Common symptoms of ankle bursitis include limping, decreased movement, pain or tenderness in the back of the ankle, redness, and warmth, and swelling on the back of the heel.
Treatment Options
Common treatment options for ankle bursitis include shoe inserts, ibuprofen, steroids, and physical therapy.
